Origin: India. Literally translated, garam masala means 'sweet mix,' & a blend along this theme is as common as curry powder all over the Indian subcontinent. Typically, garam masala can be differentiated from curry powders by the lack of chilli heat, or the usual base turmeric. Beyond that, the two categories of blends are very similar, both rich in cumin, coriander & peppercorn
